The Benefits of “Made in America” and American Goods

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Many products are still made in America. Many people are well aware of the problems we have had with outsourcing our production. What they don’t know is that there are still plenty of American companies producing things and creating jobs here in the USA.

What Does History And The Bible Tells Us That A Follower Is

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

You are not a Christian until you in reality do something – for instance a promise to God that’s long-lived. Not solely attending church on a Sunday. The martyrs of the Roman Empire knew well, that it meant not only casual belief, but even up to life and death.

The Life Of Ab Lincoln, American Leader

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

We like to think all of our presidents of the United States were truly great men and to be sure, just handling the awesome responsibility of the presidency takes a special kind of individual. One of the unique and great things about the system of government in America is the concept of citizen leadership. This is the idea of an ordinary citizen rising up and becoming president for a while and then returning to private life.

Saga of new Toronto Streetcars

Monday, November 28th, 2011

This month we had an opportunity to see mockup of new streetcar that will be coming to Toronto in near future, we hope. The vehicle is sometimes referred to with more up-to-date label, as LRV. It stands for Light Rail Vehicle. For those who love public transit and look forward to our future, seeing this mockup is a must. We have to allow that there are many people who will talk down about public transit and prefer cars at any cost. However, such attitudes are not urban. New rail vehicles can bring many changes, and we can hope that it will change attitudes, as well. Taking rails downtown for concert in Roy Thompson Hall of to go to Sony Centre for an opera should be as glamorous as taking a cab or driving a car there. Riding new low-floor streetcars should not be just for those on a budget, or a green thing to do, but a status symbol. Imagine, if, during International Film Festival in Toronto, some movie stars would go to the red carpet with our new LRV, rather than take a limo there? These pictures splashed all over the news might help to change minds of many stalwarts. I have seen some unfriendly comments about the event, posted on transit blog site. I think that these people are just ignorant and need some time.

Talking in The Land of Pyramids, Egypt!

Monday, November 28th, 2011

Egypt is a country that is well known for its tourism, wonderful creative cities, amazing experiences and liveliness but recently it has faced a massive setback and challenge in the shape of the revolutionary protests against Mubarak’s regime. Although there have been many setbacks in the progress of the country, financially and otherwise, there is no doubt in many minds that Egypt will rise up again and become the Hall of Fame country it always has been.

Requirements For A Polish Passport

Saturday, November 26th, 2011

Citizens of Poland who’re over 18 years of age and had been born outside Poland and also have never had paperwork demonstrating their particular Polish citizenship which usually includes having a Polish passport or perhaps Identification Card before they can apply for the Polish passport at a consulate get a certificate validating they actually do have Polish citizenship. So among the first requirements to get a Polish Passport is the fact that someone has a passport already in hand or a Polish ID card. That then signifies that the individual seeking to get a Polish Passport must be a citizen of Poland which has a few particular requirements involved. So they must get the official document that confirms their Polish citizenship.

Is The EPA Relevant And What Do They Do?

Friday, November 25th, 2011

The Environmental Protection Agency or EPA has been under attack by many politicians in Washington lately. There is much discussion about the necessity of this government agency’s regulations. The agency has not always existed. It was created during the presidency of Richard Nixon in response to growing concerns over the amount of pollution being introduced into the air, water, and lands across the United States by corporations. Whether the agency is run efficiently is up for debate but the importance of its existence is something that most people agree is not something that can be denied. Prior to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency there were several deadly disasters that occurred because of irresponsible pollution by corporations. In one extreme instance a river flowing through several towns caught on fire because of the number of flammable pollutants that had been dumped into the river. The basic job of the Environmental Protection Agency is to evaluate risks posed to the air, water and land of the United States. Companies will often make the choice that saves them money but sometimes that choice has dangerous or deadly consequences for people living in communities near the business operations. The EPA was established to represent the people’s interests in all environmental law making decisions.

American Politics and American Made Goods

Friday, November 25th, 2011

Today’s politics are bitter and divided. They haven’t been this bad in awhile. There’s a disconnect between the needs of our country and the agenda of our politicians. They are a self-interested bunch who don’t always serve the interests of their constituents. We have problems facing us now and we must resolve to fix them ourselves.

A Full Day In The Area Around The Somme

Friday, November 25th, 2011

Much like the region around Ypres, there are lots of cemeteries, normally along small, muddy roads. My first planned destination was the Hawthorn Crater. This is one of the mines that was detonated below the German lines at the outset of the Battle of the Somme in 1916. The explosion was captured on film and is frequently shown in documentaries about the Battle of the Somme. After driving around the area for a while, I found the Newfoundland Park Memorial & Visitors Centre and pulled over to have a look.
